Mid Coast

It’s a cool, clear morning on the Mid Coast with light NE winds and smooth seas – you could be forgiven for thinking it’s going to be a nice day. It’s not. Surf is around 1′ on the reefs and the tide’s heading out until around 0940, then coming in to a  high just before 3pm. Swell should build a bit after lunch, but you’re probably not going to want to be anywhere near the coast. An intense low is bearing down on SA, and ahead of it winds will tend North then Northwest, and gust up to 30 knots. It’ll be bumpy on the water, and the rain will probably start late morning / early arvo. From there things will just get crazier as wind picks up and squalls start to lash the coast. By tonight things will be pretty nasty, early tomorrow, nastier. So batten down the hatches… we’re in for a bumpy ride. Shred factor 5/10

Winds have dropped to a very light Westerly on the Mid Coast, but onshores overnight have left things a bit bumpy. There is swell, and there are some 1 – 2′ waves on the reefs heading toward a minor low tide at 0940. There’s only about 30cm of movement all day so the incoming tide won’t change things much, but swell may lift a bit after lunch. Winds are forecast to become light and variable by about mid arvo, so hopefully it’ll be cleaner for a late session. Shred factor 3/10

North winds around 10 knots are adding a bit of a bump on the Mid Coast this morning, but small swell remains. Surf is around 1′ on the reefs, coming up to a minor high tide at 8am. We go into a dodge tide for the rest of the day with very little movement, but it’ll be the strengthening North winds that trash it. The forecast predicts a Westerly change early arvo with onshores around 20 knots, leaving it choppy for the remainder of the day. Grommies may get a late grovel at Seaford.  Shred factor 4/10

WSW winds are back to around 12 knots on the Mid Coast this morning, but conditions are still pretty messy. Surf is around 1 – 2′ coming up to high tide, and it’s also pretty full. The dropping tide may improve the situation at selected spots, and the lower tide may offer an opportunity to surf the beachies mid arvo. Winds are forecast to drop under 10 knots by midday and shift NW after lunch, picking up again toward evening. There’ll be some sort of bumpy 1 – 2′ waves after lunch. Shred factor 3/10

North winds are gusting over 20 knots on the Mid Coast early, and conditions are bumpy. Surf is barely 1′ coming up to high tide, and during the morning the breeze will probably add a foot of wind swell. A SW change is on the way and will probably arrive early to mid arvo by the looks. The wind won’t be strong enough to produce a stormy in the gulf, choppy and waist high is probably about as good as it’ll get late arvo with 20 knot onshore sou-westers. Shred factor 1/10

Mid Coast

It’s chilly on the Mid Coast this morning with air around 6 degrees C, and a light offshore land breeze. The small swell of the last few days has dwindled to a trickle, and now waves are barely one foot on the reefs. High tide’s at 7am, then the gulf drains out until around 1330. The beachies will offer small peelers through low tide early arvo, but the reefs will be small on the incoming tide mid arvo. Light E-NE winds will keep it clean all day. Shred factor 3/10

Conditions have clean up on the Mid Coast overnight with light SE winds early. Surf is around 1 – 2′ on the reefs coming up to high tide, and it should hold up OK for the next hew hours. The dropping tide will kill it a bit, but the lower tide will favour the beachies at lunchtime. The arvo will probably see a small  lift in wave heights as the tide pushed in, and winds should become light Easterly. Looking good for a late one.   Shred factor 6/10

Winds are almost ’round to the South on the Mid Coast early, and back to around 10 – 15 knots. Conditions are bumpy along the coast with surf around 1 – 2′ on the reefs coming up to high tide. The dropping tide will kill it a bit, but the lower tide will favour the beachies through the lunch hour. The forecast is predicting SW winds up to 30 knots this morning, easing to around 10 -15 knots from the South by mid arvo. Spots like Seaford will have bumpy 1 – 2′ waves on the incoming tide. NNE winds around 12 knots are adding a few bumps on the Mid Coast this morning, but there isn’t much swell anyway. Surf is only around 0.5 – 1′ on the reefs, just coming through high tide. The dropping tide and strengthening NW winds won’t do it any favours over the next few hours, and conditions will probably be better suited to kite surfing. A SW change is expected to arrive late arvo / evening, and there’s a good chance winds will drop out and go light / variable for an hour or so before that. Swell may build a bit on the incoming tide. Mid Coast

Conditions are fairly clean on the Mid Coast early with light NNE winds and a few lines of swell sneaking in. Surf is around 1′ on the reefs with occasional bigger sets, and it’s a bit full coming through high tide. The outgoing tide will kill it a bit, so too will Northerly winds as the pick up to around 20 knots during the morning. The rest of the day will be bumpy with waist high waves on the incoming tide after lunch. The lower tide will favour the beachies around midday, but the wind won’t.   Shred factor 5/10
