South Coast

The breeze has just begun to waft light onshore on the South Coast, taking the gloss off what were glassy conditions. There’s almost no swell with the Cape Du Coudiec buoy languishing around 0.9m, and not even one foot waves between Middleton and Goolwa. Even Waitpinga and Parson’s will only manage the occasional one foot wave today. The forecast predicts onshore winds will pick up during the morning, and get up around 15 knots from the SSE after lunch. The wind will add chop, but apart from that, it’ll stay almost flat for the rest of the day. Shred factor 1/10

Swell has continued to wind back on the South Coast, and it’s still carrying a bit of leftover Easterly wobble despite light NNE winds early. The Middleton – Goolwa stretch is glassy at around 1 – 2′, with Waits or Parson’s your only hope for a shortboard wave today. Hopefully later light offshores will smooth out some of the leftover lump and then glass off early – mid arvo. A Southerly change is expected tonight but it’s really just a  wind change, and most likely won’t show up until after dark. Shred factor 6/10

Winds are out of the East on the South Coast early, and surf has adopted a more typical lumpy summer look. The Middleton – Goolwa stretch is pretty lumpy at around 3′, with peaky / glassy 2′ waves around at Chiton / Gap. Waits and Parson’s will be a bit bigger, and winds will favour Parson’s in beside the point. The forecast suggests the breeze will tend onshore SE at around 20 knots for most of the arvo, turning this morning’s lumps to slops. There’s a good chance of offshores and a hot day tomorrow, best wait for that.  Shred factor 4/10

The change rolled through on the South Coast overnight ending a great weekend of clean, offshore waves. It’s choppy and onshore for the start of he working week, with SSE winds gusting over 25 knots. The Middleton – Goolwa stretch is a mess at around 4′, with wind effected 2′ waves around at Chiton / Gap. Waits and Parson’s will be a no-go today with treacherous 5′ surf, but there are some other sneaky spots around that side that may be worth a look. Winds will stay onshore and conditions will remain messy all day. Here’s a few pics from Waits on Saturday. Shred factor 3/10

It’s another great looking day on the South Coast with light NE winds and clean,  glassy conditions early. Surf is around 3′ along Middleton to Goolwa stretch, with plenty of options and a few fun little banks. Chiton / Gap are glassy and around 1- 2′, Waits and Parsons are in the 3 – 4′ range and Waits will probably be the pick of it again today. Winds look good for the next few hours, but the wheels are set to come off after lunch with a Southerly change. The breeze will go Westerly late morning / lunch, then Southerly for the arvo. Conditions will deteriorate as the wind swings onshore, so get on it early. Hands down it’s the best weekend of 2017 so far.  Shred factor 9/10

South Coast

The South Coast has finally managed to buck the summer trend with light offshore North winds and a well lined up, clean swell. Surf is around 2 – 3′ along Middleton to Goolwa stretch, there are  gaps between sets but it’s not a bad sort of a day to sit ans wait. Chiton / Gap are glassy and smaller’, Waits and Parsons will be in the 3 – 4′ range and offering some good size / quality for  more accomplished surfers. Winds look good all day, the forecast says light and variable nut there is always a chance pf light onshores after lunch. Hopefully that doesn’t happen, and it stays pretty much the same. Get on it… this is probably the best day of 2017 so far.  Shred factor 8/10

It’s actually offshore on the South Coast this morning with light NNW winds doing their best to smooth out the swell. There’s still a bit of a wobble but Middleton to Goolwa stretch is looking pretty good at around 3′ and clean. Chiton / Gap are glassy at around 1 – 2′, Waits and Parsons will be in the 3 – 4′ range and clean early. Make the most of the next few hours, as onshore winds are forecast to resume after lunch at 10 – 15 knots. There’s a chance winds will be Westerly, which will be OK for Middleton Point / Bay.  Shred factor 7/10

It’s a rarity to have Westerly winds on the South Coast at this time of year, but early very light West winds have cleaned things up. Surf is around 3′ along the Middleton to Goolwa stretch and it’s looking alright, Waits and Parsons should be a bit bigger. Winds will be OK for the next few hours, but a gradual shift to the SW and increase in speed spell bumps for the arvo session.  Worth a dash if you can get on it early.  Shred factor 7/10

Winds are tending E-NE on the South Coast this morning, and swell is pretty well lined up – but still carrying some Easterly lump. Surf is around 3 – 4′ along the Middleton to Goolwa stretch, and glassy  2′ at Chiton / Gap. Waits and Parsons should be a bit bigger, and the East in the wind will favour Parson’s. The next few hours should be OK, but onshores will probably kick in for the arvo and add bumps / chop. Swell will stick around all day by the looks. Shred factor 6/10

We’re back to onshores on the South Coast this morning, with SSW winds at around 15 knots and bumpy conditions. Surf is around 2 – 3′ along the Middleton to Goolwa stretch, and bumpy 1 – 2′ at Chiton. Waits and Parsons should be a bit bigger, but won’t offer any improvement in quality. It’s gonna stay onshore and messy all day with Southerly winds up to 20 knots after lunch. Same tomorrow but improving later in the week.  Shred factor 4/10
