South Coast

The change moved through overnight and onshore South winds are gusiing near 30 knots on the South Coast this morning. Surf is a mess at around 3 – 5′ along the Middleton – Goolwa stretch, with sloppy 2 – 3′ waves around at Chiton / Gap. Conditions should moderate after lunch, with the breeze back to around 15 knots and more Sou-westerly in direction. The Bay or The Dump may get you out for a grovel if you’re desperate. Looking good on South Coast this morning with light offshore North winds and corduroy lines of swell. Surf is around 3′ along the Middleton – Goolwa stretch, with glassy 2′ waves around at Chiton / Gap. Waits and Parson’s will be picking up a few bigger sets.  It’s about as good as it’ll get right now with a SW change on the way, and 20 – 30 knot cross-onshore winds making a mess of it for the rest of the day. NW winds will start to pick up soon, but there is  a chance they’ll drop out again early arvo before the change hits.    Shred factor 8/10

Winds have swung back offshore on the South Coast this morning, but onshores overnight have left a bit of a wobble in the swell. Surf is around 3 – 4′ along the Middleton – Goolwa stretch, with peaky 2′ waves around at Chiton / Gap. It should straighten up a bit more during the morning with offshores persisting all day. Unfortunately the breeze will pick up to 20 knots plus during the morning, and exposed beaches will be blown out. The next few hours will probably be the best of it. Shred factor 7/10

Onshores hit the South Coast yesterday and they’ve made a mess of it overnight with SSW wind around 22 knots early. Surf is sloppy around 3 – 4′ along the Middleton – Goolwa stretch, with messy 2′ waves around at Chiton / Gap. There is some good news though, as the forecast predicts the onshores will ease during the morning, become variable after lunch and possibly even switch to a light offshore Nor-wester by mid – late arvo. Hold off and try for a late one if you can. Shred factor 3/10

Conditions are clean on the South Coast early with offshore North winds around 10 – 15 knots, and reasonably well lined up swell. Surf is around 2 – 3′ along the Middleton – Goolwa stretch, with clean 1 – 2′ waves around at Chiton / Gap. Waits and Parson’s should be a bit bigger on the sets. A SW-S change is expected to arrive during the day, possibly early arvo. It may become blown out ahead of the change, but once the wind swings onshore everywhere will be a mess. Now’s your chance. Conditions are clean on the South Coast early with offshore NNW winds around 7 knots, and well lined up swell with a slight Westerly wobble. Surf is around 3 – 4′ along the Middleton – Goolwa stretch, with clean 2′ waves around at Chiton / Gap. Waits and Parson’s will offer a bit more size, the West in the wind will favour Waits slightly up the point end. The forecast predicts offshores all day but NW winds may get up around 20 knots and blow it out a bit later. Shred factor 7/10

The pouring rain and howling wind have eased on the South Coast, but it’s left a bit of a mess with lakes of standing water. Surf is messy around 4 – 5′ along the Middleton – Goolwa stretch with onshore SSW winds around 17 knots. Chiton / Gap are around 3′ but also pretty wind effected, the Dump or Middleton bay might get you out for a grovel. It won’t hurt to leave it until later today, with winds forecast to ease and shift SW, then West, then NW by mid arvo at around 5 knots. Should be a bit cleaner after 3pm.

West winds around 30 knots are lashing the South Coast this morning, and it’s been bucketing down overnight with over an inch of rain. Surf is around 4 – 5′ along the Middleton – Goolwa stretch but it’s bumpy and getting hammered by the wind. Chiton / Gap are around 3 – 4′ but also pretty wind effected, the Dump is smaller and slightly less messed up. Swell will build a bit today so there’s a chance some of the more sheltered spots might get a look-in later today. It won’t be big enough for spots like Pines, but Chicken Run may be worth a look. Wind gusts may top 40 knots at times, easing 20 – 30 knots WSW by mid arvo. Shred factor 4/10

Winds are from the East at around 10 knots on the South Coast this morning and conditions are lumpy early.  Surf is around 4 – 5′ along the Middleton – Goolwa stretch, with cleaner 2 – 4′ waves between The Dump and Knights. Waits and Parson’s will still be closing out on the sets, winds will favour Parson’s and a few other spots ’round that side. The forecast predicts winds will tend more onshore SE-S later, so the arvo will be big and sloppy. Shred facto 6/10

Easterly winds have added  a bit of a lump on the South Coast this morning, but there’s still some solid lines of swell pushing in.  Surf is around 5′ along the Middleton – Goolwa stretch, with clean 2 – 5′ waves between The Dump and Knights. Waits and Parson’s will be struggling to hold the swell, but winds will favour Parson’s and a few other spots ’round that side. The forecast predicts winds will tend more onshore SE later, with will turn it to big and sloppy for the arvo. Shred factor 6/10
