South Coast

Onshore Southerly winds are making a mess on the South Coast this morning, with gusts over 20 knots. Swell is pretty big with sloppy 6′ surf along the Middleton – Goolwa stretch and messy 3 – 5′ waves between The Dump and Chiton / Gap. The rest of the day will be sloppy and onshore, although wind and seas should begin to ease by late arvo. Shred factor 3/10

** Sorry for late report, doing this remotely with a major NBN outage this morning. **

It’s looking good on the South Coast this morning with light offshore NW winds, clean conditions, and a pretty solid swell running.  Surf is easily  6′ along the Middleton – Goolwa stretch with the Bay or Suicides probably the only real options. There’s also plenty of swell getting in between The Dump and Knight’s beach, with size ranging from about 3′ to 6′ on the sets over selected reef wave magnets.  This morning will be the best of it with W-SW winds around 15 – 20 knots kicking in after lunch and adding a few bumps. Onshore SW winds are still gusting over 30 knots on the South Coast early, but conditions should start to moderate during the day. Swell is still pretty big, and the Middleton – Goolwa stretch is just huge mush well over 6′. The Victor – Port Elliot stretch is has surf ranging from 2 – 6′, with the Victor end offering partial shelter. Other spots near Victor sheltered from SW winds will be worth a look this morning. The wind and seas will back off this morning, and the breeze will tend more Westerly at around 20 knots mid arvo. Shred factor 5/10

Conditions have eased temporarily on the South Coast, with offshore NW winds back to around 10 knots… but it’ll be short lived. There’s a solid swell running Surf and the Middleton – Goolwa stretch is pretty raw at 6’+, with waves are breaking a long way out. The Victor – Port Elliot stretch is semi clean with surf ranging from 2 – 6′, and the reef magnets are picking up some good sized slabs. It will get even bigger today, but anywhere not completely shaded from Westerlies is gonna get smashed by gale force winds. Highly sheltered spots will be worth a look later today as winds tend more W-SW, maybe even right inside Victor. Bring a hat… hail is possible, it might even snow….  Shred factor 7/10

Winds are offshore from the NW at around 10 – 15 knots on the South Coast early and conditions are clean, but it won’t last. Surf around is around 5’+ along the Middleton – Goolwa stretch, clean with 3-4′ waves around at Chiton / Gap. NW winds will start to pick up from about now onward, and may blow up to gale force by morning smoko. The rest of the day will be blown out buy 35 knot NW-W winds, but keep an eye on sheltered spots later today as swell will build over the next 24 hours. Shred factor 7/10

There’s a small window on the South Coast this morning with offshore North winds around 10 knots and clean conditions-  but it won’t last. Surf around is 4 – 5′ along the Middleton – Goolwa stretch, with 2 – 3′ waves around at Chiton / Gap. Strong NW winds are on the way, possibly near gale force as an approaching cold front sweeps the coast. The change may arrive anytime from mid morning onward, and exposed spots looks like getting destroyed by 30 – 40 knot West winds. Once the Sou-wester kicks in sheltered spots might be worth look throughout the afternoon.  Shred factor 7/10
