Another October ong weekend is done and dusted, with no Yorkes contest and a couple of good days 3.5 hours west of Adelaide. Even the Mid Coast managed a few small waves on Sunday inside a tight tidal window, and the W-NW winds cooperated with a couple of medium sized swells on the South Coast.
SA looks to be shifting from an Autumn-like Westerly aistream to a more Spring-like Easterly one this week, which will make things a bit challenging in terms of scoring any size or quality. Business as usual for this time of year!
There’s still a few lines of swell hitting the Mid Coast tonight, and winds will kick around to a light Easterly overnight. There will probably be a few 1 – 2′ waves leftover on Wednesday morning, despite a wonky dodge tide. Middleton should maintain surf in the 3 – 4′ range, but it’ll be lumpy with cross-shore winds and the after effects of Tuesday’s onshores. West facing breaks over at Yorkes look good.
Easterly winds will lift to around 7 knots early on Thursday, and the swell will be a bit smaller. The Mid Coast will be clean but back to around 1′, with lumpy 3′ surf at Middleton. West facing breaks over at Yorkes will probably still be fun early, if a bit smaller.
Not much will change on Friday, except for the wind tending more SE after lunch. Middleton will be lumpy and 3′, the Mid Coast will maybe get to 1′ or so.
Heading into the weekend the swell will continue to fade from the SW, but should kick a bit late Sunday arvo. Saturday probably won’t see waves much over shin-high on the Mid Coast, and back to around 2′ at Middelton. East winds around 5 knots will shift SE after lunch, but probably won’t get much over 10 knots all day.
The swell will be even smaller on Sunday, but it’s probably your best shot at scoring light offshores on the South Coast. You should expect a bit of leftover wobble in the swell, but glassy conditions and surf around 1′ at Middleton. Waits or Parson’s will be the go for shortboarders. The Mid Coast will open with shin high surf, building a bit to around 1′ mid arvo, possibly a few bigger ones in the evening.
There won’t be much swell left by the start of next week, and the Westerly direction of a new swell looks like it will miss the South Coast. Middleton is looking lumpy and around 1′ with 10 knot SE winds, with 1′ waves on the Mid Coast building from 1′ to slightly bigger by evening.
There’s a new swell lining up around Tuesday, but let’s see how that’s looking in a few days.
