South Coast

Conditions are blown out on the South Coast again early with WNW winds gusting near 30 knots along exposed stretches. Swell has held up overnight with surf around 4′ along the Middleton – Goolwa stretch, and 2 – 3′ around at Chiton / Gap. The forecast predicts WNW winds at 20 – 30 knots easing to around 20 – 25 knots later, which isn’t much of a concession. It’ll be blown out all day. Shred factor 5/10

Mid Coast

The Mid Coast is almost a carbon copy of yesterday with gusty NW winds and bumpy conditions this morning. Gusts are near 30 knots and surf is around 3′, coming up to high tide at 0630. The dropping tide won’t change much, and the beachies will still be too dirty and too windy to lure anybody off the couch. Conditions will moderate slightly late arvo, but it’s gonna be messy and blown out all day. Shred factor 3/10

South Coast

Conditions are blown out on the South Coast early with WNW winds gusting near 30 knots along exposed stretches. Swell is bigger but still very westerly in direction, so a lot of it is rolling right past. Surf is around 2 – 3′ along the Middleton – Goolwa stretch with the odd bigger set, and 1 – 2′ around at Chiton / Gap.  Waits and Parson’s will be bigger, but even Waits Point will not really offer enough shade from the wind. The forecast predicts WNW winds at 20 – 30 knots all day, swell will build a bit later but everywhere will be blown out. Shred factor 5/10

Mid Coast

WNW winds are gusting near 30 knots on the Mid Coast this morning, and conditions are blown out and messy. Swell has come up and surf is around 2′, and will probably get bigger during the day. Unfortunately winds will stay out of the WNW at similar strength all day, so options along the Mid will be better suited to kite or wind surfing. Sheltered spots farther up the gulf may get a look in later.  Shred factor 2/10

2016 Coopers Yorkes Classic

goudie

The Veteran, Todd Goudie, Wins “The Coopers Yorkes Classic” 2016.

By Luke Horlin-Smith ( via Surfing South Australia )

The 2007 Yorkes Champion and this year’s Contest Director today turned back the clock to take his third Classic at West Cape, Innes National Park. Goudie unleashed his lethal backhand attack to score an impressive 8.33 (out of ten) midway through the 25 minute final to take the victory from Max Longhurst 2nd, Brae Adams 3rd and Khai Adams 4th.

“I am super stoked that the day was held in unreal waves at one our favourite Yorke’s surf spots. I feel elated to win and proud to be a part of such a prestigious comp”, said Goudie

It was the youngest finalist Brae Adams who took the early lead finding a couple of solid 6pt rides. Khai Adams and Goudie both answered with mid range 6pt rides to put themselves in contention. While, the defending champion Max Longhurst waited patiently before taking an impressive wave on which he smashed multiple backhand snaps to score a solid 6.9pt. But it was the 37yr old veteran Goudie who found gold on a long right where he lit up his backhand like a Xmas Tree to drop a massive 8.33pt score. The other surfers tried desperately to find the good wave needed to challenge Goudie. But with Khai scoring an interference as he clashed with Max for what looked like a possible winning wave, the siren blared and the crowd cheered for a popular win by Goudie.

The entertaining Over 45 Division didn’t fail to deliver with interferences, wipeouts and classic surfing. In the end it was Craig Potgieter who surfed with radical style to take the title.

Sean and Paul Hanna was awarded the “Spirit of Yorkes Award” in memory of Surfing SA legend Christine Cox. Hanna has been a long serving supporter of the Classic and the wider Marion Bay, Yorke Peninsula community.

Surfing SA would like to thank the supporters of the Classic- Coopers, Billabong, Surf Dive‘n’Ski and the Marion Bay Tavern.

South Coast

Conditions are clean on South Coast early with light offshore NNW winds, but swell has dropped a fair bit overnight. Surf is only around 1 – 2′ along the Middleton – Goolwa stretch, and Waitpinga / Parson’s are probably your only hope for a shortboard wave this morning. You’ll want to be on it ASAP, as N-NW winds are forecast to pick up during the morning to around 25 knots and blow it out. That’ll be it then for the rest of the day, with  a late W-SW change tonight. Shred factor 6/10

Mid Coast

NNE winds around 10 – 15 knots are adding a bit of a bump on the Mid Coast this morning, not that it matters much with hardly any swell. Surf is only around 1′ on the reefs, and it’s not going to get any better as the tide heads out. North winds will start to pick up during the morning and add more bumps, and even the beachies will struggle to top shin-high through low tide at lunch. NW winds may gust near 25 knots later which will be good news for kit and wind surfers. Onshore Westerlies may whip up some wind swell this evening ahead of a cold front.   Shred factor 1/10

SW winds have eased back to around 15 knots on South Coast early, and swell has eased a bit overnight. Surf remains bumpy along exposed stretches with waves around 3 – 5′ along the Middleton – Goolwa stretch, 2 – 4′ around at Chiton / Gap, and 1 – 2′ at The Dump. Swell will continue to wind down today but winds will shift to the N-NE after lunch and should clean it up for a late one. Shred factor 6/10

Mid Coast

Now the wind has gone so too has the swell on the Mid Coast, and it’s bumpy early with WNW winds around 12 knots. Surf is back to around 1′ on the reefs and with the water still pretty dirty, nowhere is looking very tempting. The beachies will have small waves through low tide at 1040, but South Port still has a lot of debris and pollution floating around. The incoming tide may offer a small lift in size, and as winds swing more to the NE it will clean up.  Shred factor 2/10
