Mid Coast

N-NE winds have been gusting over 20 knots on the Mid Coast early, but now the wind seems to have dropped ahead of a wind change. There are 1′ waves on the reefs with occasional bigger sets, and it’s bumpy from the wind. A W-SW change is due almost any time from now on, and winds will be onshore for the rest of the day after the change. It’s not a strong front so we won’t get a stormy – just messy 1 – 2′ wind + ground swell.  Shred factor 4/10

Conditions are glassy on the Mid Coast early with very light SW winds and a bit of leftover bump in the swell. There are 2′ waves on the reefs coming up to high tide at 0740, and it’ll probably hold up OK for the  next few hours. Onshores may pick up a bit this morning and add some more bumps, and the tidal drain will tend to kills it a bit at some spots. The beachies should start to work better through low tide at lunch, but keep an eye on the reefs once the tide starts to push back in. Winds should drop and possibly tend light NE by mid arvo, and there’ll still be some swell left hopefully.   Shred factor 5/10

Winds are around to the SSW on the Mid Coast, and have eased back to 10 – 12 knots but it’s still pretty bumpy. Surf is around 1 – 2′ and not looking too flash heading through high tide. The dropping tide won’t change much, although the beachies will probably pick up a few more waves through low tide at lunch.  The forecast predicts W-SW winds at 15 – 20 knots for most of the arvo, so it’ll be bumpy 1 – 2′ for the rest of the day. Try Seaford later if you’re desperate. Shred factor 3/10

Conditions are glassy on the Mid Coast early with very light NE winds, and a few lines of leftover swell. Surf is around 1′ on the reefs with rare bigger ones, coming up to high tide at 0640. It’ll be a race between the dropping tide and N – NW winds to see which kills it first, but both will be into it by mid morning. A SW change will roll through after lunch and turn winds onshore, enough to chop it up but not strong enough for a stormy. The rest of the day will be messy, and probably won’t top 1 – 2′. Conditions are glassy on the Mid Coast early with very light NE winds, and a few lines of leftover swell. Surf is around 1′ on the reefs with occasional bigger ones, coming up to high tide at 0615. The outgoing tide will probably snuff it out a bit mid morning, but the lower tide will favour the beachies through the lunch hour. The arvo may see a small pulse as the tide starts moving back up the gulf, but it probably won’t any bigger than this morning. Light / variable winds all day should keep it clean. Shred factor 6/10

Onshores persist on the Mid Coast this morning with surf around 1 – 2′ and West winds around 10 knots. The tide is just peaking and about to start heading out, so waves will be even less frequent mid morning. The lower tide will favour the beachies at lunch time, but W-SW winds will keep it bumpy during the morning. There is a ray of hope with the possibility of S-SE winds and cleaner waves on the reefs in the evening.  Shred factor 4/10

A cold front rolled through around 5am with gusts close to 30 knots, but winds are back to 17 knots from the West on the Mid Coast early. Surf is around 2′ and bumpy, just coming off high tide. The outgoing tide won’t change things much, but low tide will expose the reefs and help the beachies to break better. There’ll be waves on the incoming tide but onshore W – SW winds around 15 – 20 knots will keep it bumpy all day.  Shred factor 4/10

Stormy conditions have abated on the Mid Coast overnight with winds back to 17 knots from the WSW. Conditions are still pretty bumpy / messy with surf around 2′ with a few bigger ones. The tide’s heading out and drops almost 2m to a very low 0.25m just before midday, which will expose all the reefs. There will be bumpy waves on the incoming tide around 2 – 3′ with 15 – 20 knot W-SW winds. Shred factor 4/10

Nor-west winds were up around 20 knots overnight but thev’ve eased on the Mid Coast, back to around 7 knots. Conditons are bumpy with surf around 2′ on the reefs and the tide headng out. The lower tide will favour the beachies late morning, but NW-W winds around 20 knots will maintain bumpy conditions.  A late shift to W-SW winds will whip up some semi-stormy waves on the reefs after lunch / late arvo. Mid Coast

Conditions are clean on the Mid Coast early with East winds around 5 knots, and there are some lines of  W-SW swell. Surf is around 1′ on the reefs with rare bigger sets, and the tide on it’s way out. The drain of the tide will kill it a bit after 8am, but the beachies hopefully will pick up some of the slack. Low tide is at 11am, and hopefully we’ll see swell lift on the reefs as the tide starts moving back in. Unfortunately, the (probably over-) anticipated increase in size will be accompanied by strengthening North winds, first tending NE then Northerly at 20 knots plus by late arvo. Once the wind settles in it’ll be bumpy everywhere, and that may happen by early arvo. Just hope it doesn’t get as strong as forecast.  Shred factor 5/10
