Boy, what a shitty week that was, hey?
Day after day of Easterly winds and gutless lumpy waves on the South Coast, and typical Spring flatness on the Mid Coast. But relief is in sight my wave starved brethren and sistren. Swell and Autumn weather’s a commin’… but it’s a bit of a mixed bag.
Tuesday will open to light Easterly winds… and you can then kiss those suckers goodbye after lunch when the sea breeze kicks in. Swellwise it’s a dud for the South Coast – Middleton will only be around 1′ in the morning, maybe a tad bigger by mid arvo. The Fickle Mid Coast will do better with an interesting couple of swells. The primary should fill in around 18 seconds mid arvo, but a good secondary WSW swell will give it a shove in the morning. West facing breaks at Yorkes will be best late morning – just enough time for you to call the boss from Port Wakefield.
A weak front will clip the South Coast and swing the breeze around to the West early Wednesday, and the Mid will be bumpy at around 2′. The swell will be bigger down South, probably 3′ at Middleton, building during the day. Winds will tend more cross-onshore WSW later.
A more convincing front will be preceded by a trough on Wednesday night, and Thursday will dawn to 15 knot SW winds tending more Westerly after lunch. The Mid Coast will again be bumpy and onshore, with surf around 2′. Exposed breaks on the South Coast will be a bit wind effected with 4′ surf at Middleton.
Friday morning marks the start of an uncharacteristically solid Spring swell.
In the morning winds will be WNW, possibly under 20 knots for the first couple of hours, but building in the morning. Middleton will kick off with surf around 4′ but it’ll build to 6′ or so after lunch. Unfortunately, the wind is looking strong from the SW after lunch, limiting your options to sheltered breaks. The Mid Coast will be stormy with 2 – 3′ messy surf.
The wind should ease a bit overnight and tend SW at 15 knots on Saturday. The swell should still be solid down South with 6′ surf at Middleton. Sheltered spots like The Dump and possibly even Chicken Run will be worth a look. The Mid Coast will remain wind effected by the onshores, with 2 – 3′ surf easing after lunch.
An absolute thumper swell is lining up for Sunday, and surf may be in the 6 – 8′ range on the South Coast. Winds look like they’ll have some south in them all day, so your best hope is for a light sou-wester early Sunday morning. Sheltered spots will again be your best options.
Conditions will moderate into next week, with fading swell and easing winds over the Fleurieu and Yorke Peninsulas.
